Things to Do & See in Umhlanga

There are plenty of things to do & see in the upmarket coastal resort of Umhlanga. Outdoor and indoor activities will keep families, singles and groups entertained. Likewise, honeymoon couples will find the perfect mix of fun and relaxation.

The most noteworthy outdoor thing to do & see in Umhlanga would be a visit to the beaches. Beautiful, scenic sand stretches for miles north and south. Shark nets offshore offer safe bathing in the warm Indian ocean. And swimming areas are monitored by lifeguards.

After you’ve finished lazing on the beach you can try adventures. These might include ocean charters, fishing, flying, diving, the bird park and crocodile farm.

Furthermore, you could join some of the many visitors each year that visit iconic attractions. The Umhlanga Promenade, Umhlanga Lighthouse and the whalebone pier fit the bill here.

The promenade in particular is  an excellent fitness facility. Runners, walkers, children, athletes and pooches all use it regularly. It is also home to the weekly Parkrun.

Also worth visiting are Umhlanga’s natural habitats such as nature trails, lagoons, the Hawaan forest and the Umhlanga Nature Reserve. Here you can enjoy lush coastal vegetation, small creatures and cool, leafy calmness.

Finally, take part in some of the annual  festival activities. The Umhlanga Tourism Summer Festival is the most well-known. It features events like Miss Umhlanga and Carols Under the Stars.

Indoors & Culture

In contrast to outdoor fun are a number of indoor activities. Shopping centres small and large abound. Similarly, cultural attractions that include art galleries and art and craft shops are available. Cinemas and theatres, casinos and music outlets are close by. Indoor games provide fun. A number of tour operators offer tours to nearby places of interest.

Lastly, spas in this northern part of KwaZulu-Natal abound. They offer restful body and beauty treatments, perfect for holiday relaxation.
